Like me, you may well be thinking “of course the room makes a difference when you are recording drums”. But I perhaps underestimated by how much, and this video goes someway to demonstrating how much the room sound will influence the overall drum sound.
There are a lot of variables which can influence the sound of your drum recording. Unless your Glyn Johns you probably have more than ten mics picking up various drums. The position of those mics can easily change and then there are the pre amps that those mics are going through. Then you have the actual drummer and how they hit the drums which can be wildly variable. Having worked with Alex Reeves I know for a fact that he is an incredibly consistent drummer so the right man for the job when it comes to reducing variables in drum recording.
By keeping all the variables as consistent as possible, Tomasso Colliva and Alex Reeves set out to show what a huge difference the room makes when recording drums
Real drums make a huge difference to any music production. Getting a real drum recording used to be very expensive as it would entail hiring a studio and setting up a kit with the relevant mics. But online drum recording services reduce the time and cost element associated with getting a great drum recording. Not only that but real drums will elevate and enhance your music.
